Google Caffeine - What Does It Mean For Your Website?

Google recently updated their Web indexing system with an important update called Caffeine. As a search engine user looking for a more relevant result on your search query, Caffeine can offer you faster and more efficient content indexing of Web sites. As a Web site operator, the Caffeine update may have a significant impact on your site rankings as it now wants to prioritise fresh content.

How does Google Caffeine work?
Caffeine is designed to be a more efficient way of indexing the increasing amount of Web content available as well as more popular, complex content like videos, images, live feeds and blogs. Caffeine aims to:

  • Deliver faster and more relevant results
  • Index Web pages on an enormous scale
  • Analyse the Web in smaller sections
  • Update its search index on a continuous basis, globally

How will it affect your Website?
Regularly developing fresh content will aid your search engine rankings. Having an easy-to-navigate site is more important for rankings than ever. Suggestions to get better Google ranking results include:

  • Updating your sitemap and submitting it to Google Webmaster Tools
  • Ensuring your sitemap page has plenty of keyword rich links
  • Including keywords in all content (including videos, images, blogs etc)
  • Updating blogs regularly with new, keyword-rich content
  • Categorising and subcategorising content so it's easy to locate
  • Taking advantage of social networking sites and forums to develop new content
  • Ensuring you link to quality sites
  • Reviewing your page download rate
