Step 1: Domain Name Registration
Before we can create a hosting account for you, you will need to have a registered domain name. If you already have a domain name, you can specify it below then proceed to step 2.
If you have not yet registered a domain name we have a couple of options below to help you through this process. You can self-register (option 1) or Avatar will register your desired domain on your behalf (option 2).
Option 1. Self-Registration
If you prefer to handle your own domain name registration we recommend the following New Zealand domain name registrars:
A full list of authorised domain name registrars is available on the New Zealand Domain Name Commissioners website.
Please record the name of your domain registrar and the associated username & password.
Option 2. Avatar-Assisted Domain Name Registration
If you have not yet registered a domain name and would like us to complete this on your behalf, please give us details of the preferred name/s you would like to register in the boxes below. Please note that we will only register one of these names.
If you would like a domain suffix that is not listed, please contact us.
The cost of domain name registration is $29.95+gst per domain name per year.
Please note Avatar Ltd. is not a domain registrar; we will create an account and register a domain with Discount Domains on your behalf. We will register the domain for the first year. After this period you will receive a renewal reminder from Discount Domains and be liable for your own renewal.
Step 3: Select Your Email Options
Email services are provided as part of your hosting plan with Avatar Ltd.
We will create email addresses for your organisation name e.g. @yourcompanyname.co.nz and forward these emails to any selected ISP address of your choice, e.g. xtra.co.nz, clear.net.nz.
Please give us the details of the email forwarding you would like us to set up for your hosting account.
You may make changes to these addresses at any point by emailing us at hosting@avatar.co.nz.
Step 4: Changing to Avatar Name Servers
To complete the set up of your hosting account the name server information will need to be changed with your domain name registrar. Avatar will happily complete this step for you if you provide us with the username and password for your account with your domain name registrar.
Because you specified a new domain in step 1, you can skip past this section.
Step 5: Billing Details
Once the set up is complete you will receive an invoice covering the set up fee and the first month's charges. We will also email you the File Transfer Protocol details relating to your site.
From then on we prefer hosting accounts to be paid by Automatic Payment on the first day of every month. We can post out an automatic payment form if required, otherwise you can use online banking to set up the monthly charge. We will email you with a specific reference ID to be used when making automatic payments.
Our bank account details are as follows:
Westpac Account Number: 031592 0134903 00
