Web Design Case Studies

Avatar has worked with leading companies and organisations, both nationally and internationally, and are proud of the innovative and creative Web site designs we have created. Working with a huge variety of clients from start up businesses to corporate world leaders, we aim for the highest standard of delivery and professionalism to our clients. Here’s further information about a selection of sites we’ve worked with.

Aucom

AuCom

AuCom Electronics is a Christchurch-based electronics and electrical engineering firm, which designs and manufactures soft starters and motor control machinery for the international market.

The company has distributors throughout the world, including USA, Canada, Peru, Mexico, Chile, China, India, Malaysia and Indonesia.

As part of our design work to improve the impact and usability of the AuCom site, we introduced bolder calls to action, restructured the menu and created a new design style sheet (CSS). We also re-wrote the home page text and advised on site optimisation strategies to assist with future search engine rankings. We continue to work closely with AuCom’s marketing team to keep their Web site up to date and functioning correctly. This work has also included:

  • New Flash animation for home page featuring AuCom storyboard
  • Improvements to the administration area
  • Addition of ‘Quick Tours’ and ‘Videos’ to product pages
  • Extensive work on the Resources section, a login area for distributors
  • Enhancing the functionality of the Aucom Extranet site, used internally by Aucom employees

We have worked closely with Aucom in the area of Web marketing and carried out ongoing search engine optimisation. Work has included new optimised content, link building and detailed Web site traffic analysis. The site achieves strong results for many keywords phrases in a range of international markets.

Canterbury Mazda

canterbury-mazda

Canterbury Mazda is the largest sole Mazda dealership in New Zealand. They stock a wide range of new and used private and commercial vehicles and have experienced staff to carry out any mechanical repairs.

Avatar’s main goals were to redesign the existing Canterbury Mazda site to modernise the company’s online image and to improve the site’s search engine popularity to increase enquiries and leads.

The Web site was created using WordPress CMS and incorporates engaging content, images and flash animation to modernise the existing site, and Web marketing services to increase traffic. The site includes:

  • Three compelling call to action pages
  • Around 20 utility content sections
  • Flash animation for the main page
  • Search engine optimisation
  • WordPress Content Management System
  • WordPress Shopping Cart
  • Favicon

After Mark and the team at Avatar took over our site, our enquiries began to become a daily occurrence once more. We have found that working with Avatar was a breath of fresh air over the last company we had used. Always in communication in one form or another and with staff that share the customer’s vision of how their business should be presented on the Web. I have been extremely impressed with the friendly and professional way in which the business operates… well done. — Wayne McLellan, Canterbury Mazda

National Army Museum

National Army Museum

Since 1978 New Zealand’s national war museum, The National Army Museum, has aimed to educate New Zealanders and overseas visitors about New Zealand military history and to acquire, preserve and display artifacts relevant to soldiers’ experiences and the history of the New Zealand army.

In 2009, National Army Museum commissioned our services to accomplish several major objectives:

  • To redesign their Web site to match the new branding of the National Army Museum
  • To modernise and refresh the Museum’s online image
  • To increase Web traffic and search engine popularity through Web marketing activities

The Web site design incorporated words, pictures, graphics and animation to create an engaging, modern image for the Army Museum. It included:

  • A choice of army green hues, contrasted by a bold shade of red, symbolising the blood shed by those on the battlefield
  • A new Flash animation design for the home page
  • Selection of three distinct colours to clearly define the major areas of the site: What’s On, Research and Education
  • Clearly designed navigation with a prominent menu and easy to read, meaningful headings
  • Addition of prominent calls to actions including ‘Join Our Newsletter’ and ‘Internet Special’

Through search engine optimisation and link building work completed by Avatar, the National Army Museum’s Web site has achieved substantial coverage on search engines used by both New Zealand and international searchers. Avatar continues to work alongside the National Army Musem in the area of Web marketing by carrying out an ongoing promotion service that includes monthly reporting, Google Analytics set up and analysis, site wide optimisation for selected keyword phrases and additional link building work.

We are extremely satisfied with our new website and have achieved all our goals. The team at Avatar have done a great job and were awesome to work with. I would recommend them to anyone looking to develop an attractive, easy to use site which is highly visible with the search engines. — Nicola Bennett, National Army Museum

New Zealand Tourism Online

New Zealand Tourism Guide

New Zealand Tourism Guide’s main travel portal started operations in 1997. Mark Rocket, Managing Director of Avatar was also a co-founding Director of this site. Initially listing a few dozen travel options, it now boasts over 10,000 listings from New Zealand tourist and travel sites and works with hundreds of tourism operators throughout the country. New Zealand Tourism Guide has won five New Zealand Tourism Awards and has been in the Deloitte Fast 50 for three years in a row.

In a highly competitive market place, New Zealand Tourism Guide required prominent and comprehensive positioning on the national and international search engines used by its target market.

In order to achieve and keep this degree of online visibility, New Zealand Tourism Guide worked in partnership with Mark Rocket and the Avatar Team from the early days.

In order to ensure that New Zealand Tourism Guide achieved top search results, Avatar carried out extensive Web site marketing. In addition, Avatar was working with the company on Web site design up until Telecom Yellowpages purchased the company in 2006. Avatar still has some linkages with New Zealand Tourism Guide, and it is fondly remembered by the team as an incredible success to be a part of.
