Search Engine Optimisation Process

When you commission your search engine optimisation service from us, you'll need to provide us with your FTP access or Web site administrative access, tell us where geographically your target market is and what you think the keyword phrases relevant to your business may be. Here are the typical steps involved for many of our optimisation projects:

1. Keyword Phrases

We will research and identify keyword phrases relevant to your market and appropriate to the level of competition in your industry to include in your site optimisation.

2. Search Engine Optimisation Strategy

Having agreed on the selected keyword phrases with you, we work on the best strategy for optimising your site. We evaluate your site and implement search engine optimisation techniques specific to it. This may include: technical suggestions for making your site more 'search-engine' friendly, optimising existing Web pages and/or creating additional content pages.

3. Integrating Optimised Content Pages

The additional content pages focus their content on each of your keyword phrases, which are accessed via a link on your Web site. We may also create an introduction page which links to the copyright declaration on your home page. You can see an example of the copyright link on the Avatar home page. This Introduction page may include a full statement of copyright and links to each of the new content pages.

4. On Page Optimisation

As part of our optimisation strategy, we (or your Web designer/programmer) will add the keyword phrases to your site in the various locations that search engines examine to determine how relevant a site is to a particular search. These locations include the text on the home page, and the title, description and keyword meta tags. Small editorial changes to your Web site are generally required.

5. Link Exchange

We may place a link on your home page to the Avatar Web site and a graphical link to NZS.com on your introduction or links page. You can see an example of the graphical NZS.com link on this Introduction page.
In exchange, we will link to your site from one of our Avatar Sites page. In addition, we will give you a free bold listing in the NZS.com regional category that is most relevant to your business. Exchanging links benefits all sites because search engines count links to decide how 'popular' a site is and where it should appear in their search results. Please let us know if you do not want to take advantage of this optional link exchange.

6. Submissions

Once the optimisation is complete, we will upload the optimised pages for you to review. If you are happy with everything, we will then submit your Web site to popular New Zealand and international search engines and directories.

7. Site Traffic

After a month or two, you should see some increase in your site traffic. If you are not tracking your site statistics, contact your Web host for more information.

8. Site Rankings

Eight to twelve weeks after submissions, we will usually contact you to discuss your site's search engine rankings across a number of search engines.

9. Google Rankings

Google is the world's largest search engine and we know that you'll be keen to see your Web site ranking on its results pages. However, Google can be slow to rank new Web sites. It can take up to 6-12 months for some new sites to get any traction in its results. Google is also very keen on counting the number of links a site has, so we'd highly recommend that during this time you embark on a programme of link building and link exchanging with good partner sites.

In Summary Search engine optimisation is a mixture of science, mathematics, creativity and marketing savvy. It's a long-term online marketing strategy, which requires time and patience, but the benefits of establishing good search engine rankings for your site can be extremely worthwhile.
