Is Penguin 2.0 On The Horizon?
Monday, September 17th, 2012
All Google updates experience ongoing change and adjustments, and the Penguin update is no exception. The first iteration went live earlier this year, and in the crosshairs were spammy, keyword-stuffed contents and low quality links. Since this was a new, dramatic change to the algorithm, SEO experts know from experience – and Google acknowledges this too – there are likely to be some serious bumps as the search engine engineers refine the algorithm and add or subtract different variables.
Now in the second week of September, several months after Penguin, SEO communities across the web are starting to notice their ratings twitch. Google admits the new update is likely to be a serious shake up, and most SEO experts agree it is on its way – though the mothership remains silent on any specific date. With speculation growing, we’ll be keeping an eye out for how this update looks to be shaking down. If you monitor your own site’s SEO, watch for fluctuations in rankings over the coming weeks. It’s likely the intended effect will be to further hammer down sites with keyword-stuffed content and links from low authority sites, though the effect in practise will only be seen in time.
